Gang plays spoilsport at pubs in city
CHENNAI: A group of young boys, apparently led by a relativeof a politician, has become a nuisance in pubs across the city.
They have named themselves the 'Anna Nagar Boys' and photograph girls on their cell phones, pass lewd comments and attack men who question their behaviour.
Police have received complaints from pubs in Nungambakkam, Teynampet and Anna Salai, but no case has been registered in the matter so far.

Sources said the policemen who came to enquire about the complaints were threatened by the gang. The boys claim to be related to a senior politician and are friends of a south-based politician's son. The son of a senior police official is also said to be a member of this gang.
"Policemen accuse the pub authorities of not downing shutters on time. They also try to victimise complainants. A week back, the gang beat up a group of men who objected to their behaviour. The gang had passed lewd comments on some women and pulled their hands asking them to dance," an employee of a pub in a start hotel said.
According to sources, the gang usually start from Anna Nagar after 10 pm and are known to drive around rashly. They use a white Mitsubushi Lancer with a 'for registration' sticker. "It is an old car that they are using without a number plate," the source added.

On reaching a pub, they pull the mike from the disc jockeys and announce that they are the Anna Nagar Boys. The gang even sexually harasses girls in the pubs. Knowing their political connections, pub authorities remain mute spectators.
The gang's favourite hangout is a pub in a star hotel on Nungambakkam High Road. Many regulars have stopped visiting because of the gang. "They are a nuisance on Saturdays when we have the maximum customers," a pub employee said.
"They refuse to pay their bill and threaten everyone. Recently, one of the gang members had thrashed the son of a Congress leader in a pub," a regular pub hopper said.
The police have been told to watch out for the activities of the gang. "We are monitoring their activities but nothing will come of it because of their proximity to senior political leaders and police officials," a police personnel attached to the city intelligence wing said.
